Through a research based practice incorporating performance, text, film and sound works, Ablett questions whether, if both the ‘self’ and language are a construct of society, can speaking be a route to understanding who we are?
Using language as both the concept and material Ablett is interested in the subjective interpretation of a common language and the room for error this leaves in communication. She sees language as an ethnological tool, locating a person in a particular place or time, through their accent and the phrasing, idioms and wording they use.
